Job Title: Ambulance Dispatcher
Location: Bristol (BS32)
Salary: £25,147 to £27,596 per annum (plus unsocial enhancements)
Hours: 37.5 (varying shift patterns covering days, nights, weekends, bank holidays etc.)
Contract Type: Permanent

Gi Group are now seeking to appoint an experienced Ambulance Dispatcher to our Public Sector client based in Bristol. The Ambulance Dispatcher will report to the Dispatch Team Leader and will be responsible for managing the effective and efficient deployment of operational resources to emergency calls from members of the public, Healthcare Professionals, and other agencies. The Ambulance Dispatcher will also be responsible for providence assurance to the Dispatch Team Leader regarding all aspects of operational delivery and performance across their dispatch area. The postholder will utilise and follow the call categorisation and coding as determined by the triage process or policy, ensuring that all incidents are dispatched on time and in priority order at all times, escalating concerns to the Dispatch Team Leader.
This role is subject to training course that runs for initially 3 weeks, during office hours Monday to Friday. The course is pass or fail.

Duties of the Ambulance Dispatcher

Ensure safe, high quality, and consistent dispatch as determined by the triage process or policy, ensuring that all incidents are dispatched on time and in priority order at all times, escalating concerns to the Dispatch Team Leader.
Ensure that any adverse incidents or patient safety concerns are escalated immediately to the Dispatch Team Leader and reported through the organisation's Incident Reporting System.
Ensure any concerns relating to the clinical safety of the dispatching zone are discussed with the Dispatch Team Leader in a timely fashion.
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) and operational ambulance service practices.
Ensure the safety of responding crews through timely and accurate communication, provision of warning marker details, and regular monitoring.
Raise any welfare concerns over welfare of patients or staff. This may include safeguarding concerns or risk of violence and aggression.
Undertake appropriate management of the organisation's resources within the dispatch allocated area, allocating rest periods, and ensuring breaks or unavailability are managed appropriately and in line with policy.
Work with frontline staff and Operations Officers to ensure prompt delivery of ambulance resourcing, ensuring any delays or other availability issues are highlighted for review.
Ensure compliance with National Performance Standards, meal break compliance, resource unavailability, allocation and utilisation SOPs and procedures.
Managing and communicate with operational staff by assigning them to emergency, urgent, and routine incidents.
Ensure timely and accurate allocation to incidents, in accordance with the principles 'no patient to be kept waiting unnecessarily' and 'respond, review, revise' and that these are consistently adopted.
To provide effective handover at each shift changeover and rest break periods.
Role Criteria

4 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C or above including English.
Full flexibility to work Monday to Sunday, day or night, including Bank Holidays.
Hold a Full Driving Licence.
Evidence of previous mentoring experience.
Experience in dealing with a diverse range of people in a customer/patient environment.
Experience working in the health sector.
Experience using a telephone or computer as a regular means of communication in a work environment.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, with tact and diplomacy when required.
Good telephone and radio manner, able to deal with phone calls and radio communications, appropriately and professionally.
Good IT skills.
Ability to work to defined policy, procedures, practice, and instructions.
Planning and decision-making skills.
Ability to build and foster positive relationships with frontline operational colleagues.
Ability to operate efficiently and effectively, under periods of sustained pressure.
Ability to develop and adapt to change.
Ability to analyse problems and provide effective solution.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
