Agri-Food and BioSciences Institute (AFBI) is a leading provider of scientific research and services to government, non-governmental organisations and commercial organisations. We are sponsored by our key stakeholder, the Department of Agriculture Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA).
The Scientific Officer posts will cover a range of activities and support development of hydrological runoff risk models and soil nutrient mapping for DAERAs Soil Nutrient Health Scheme (SNHS).
The main duties will include:
Hydrological Modelling
Geospatial data management
Field Mapping
Resource and staff management
Administration
You must meet the following criteria;
1a) A degree in geography, environmental science or a related discipline including a taught component on Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
OR
1b) A degree in geography, environmental science or a related discipline and a minimum of one year working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in environmental applications.
AND
2. A minimum of one years experience in GIS and scientific data management to include familiarity and competence with electronic data using spreadsheets, database packages and GIS.
3. A minimum of one years experience using QGIS Graphical Modeller or Arc GIS ModelBuilder.
4. Demonstrable experience of analysing and interpreting geospatial and LiDAR datasets for physical environmental applications.
5. Demonstrable experience in map reading and interpretation and ability to use GPS and basic mapping software.
6. Possess a full driving licence which enables the postholder to drive a car in Northern Ireland and have access to a form of transport which will permit them to meet the requirements of the post in full. The successful candidate may be required to drive departmental vehicles as part of their duties
