Job description

Tradebe are looking for a Lab Manager based at our Nuclear licensed site in Winfrith, Dorset.

To act as deputy to the Radio-Chemistry manager, the Laboratory Manager within the Analytical Chemistry team. Advise team members on analytical techniques and act as trouble-shooter to evaluate and fix problems in all analytical areas. Assist with costing and preparation of proposals, and to plan and perform project management operations in the radiochemistry laboratories. Responsible for the financial management of the Analytical Chemistry team, including invoicing.

The person

Preparation of QA documentation such as Work Instructions and Method Statements
Operation and maintenance of analytical instrumentation
Comprehensive knowledge of techniques for analytical chemistry and laboratory safety
Staff training in analytical techniques
Ability to perform all radiochemical methods used, with trouble-shooting
Visual Basic Programming and Access database development
Operational experience within radioactive facilities

The role

Project planning, costing and proposals
Management of orders, finances, forecasting, invoicing, and post-project reviews
Liaise with internal and external customers as Senior Consultant
Work planning and day-to-day people management. Annual staff appraisals
Sample management, radioactive material control and administration, including maintenance of the ACS Sample Management and Tracking System
Act as Principal COSHH Assessor, Beryllium Responsible Officer and as a Risk Assessor
QA control of instruments, methods, laboratory and data
Chemical analysis and trouble-shooting
Spreadsheet development and validation
Data verification (lab journaling and data input verification)
Interpretation and calculation of data to produce test reports for the customer
Reporting and verification
