Homelessness Advice Officer
Southampton
Monday - Friday, 9 am - 5 pm
3 month contract

Purpose of Job:
The Homelessness Advice Officer will play a crucial role in the prevention and relief of homelessness, in line with the Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Act 2002, and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. The post holder will share responsibilities within the Homelessness Unit, ensuring compliance with the City Council's Equal Opportunity policy.

Homelessness Advice Officer Key Accountabilities & Duties:

Conduct thorough assessments of households applying for assistance, gathering detailed information on housing, financial, social, and health circumstances.
Verify authenticity through appropriate enquiries, visits, and collaboration with other agencies.
Implement effective strategies to prevent and relieve homelessness, mediating between clients and housing providers at risk of homelessness.
Take appropriate measures to prevent loss or damage to clients' personal possessions.
Provide statutory advice to clients, including housing advice, landlord/tenancy relations, and mortgage default.
Homelessness Advice Officer Essentials:

Knowledge of relevant legislation around Homelessness and Housing.
Ability to work under pressure, prioritize workload, and meet statutory targets.
Experience in mediation and negotiation to avert homelessness.
Desirable:
Ability to travel around the city for appointments, sometimes at short notice.

Additional Requirements:
The role may require participation in standby, fire marshal duties, first aid, and emergency planning rota.

Due to the nature of the service users, you will be working with, you will require an Enhanced DBS for this role. If you have an existing DBS on the update service, this will be beneficial to your application.

The Package
This is a temporary, Homelessness Advice Officer , 37 hours per week for an initial 3 months, covering the recruitment process for a permanent team member, meaning the role could be extended, or become permanent..
