Are you an experienced Senior Design Manager who is looking for the next step in your career?This is a great opportunity to join a leading Tier 1 main contractor who are looking for a Senior Design Manager to join their team in Chester. They have been established for over 50 years and specialise in construction and civil engineering projects, working both nationally and internationally on a variety of projects that can be valued in excess of £100m.
The company work across multiple sectors including the healthcare, education, residential and leisure, as well as large scale infrastructure and civil engineering projects.
The role - Senior Design Manager
Reporting to Project Director you will be working on a large healthcare project in Chester and will be responsible for establishing the Contractor's permanent works design requirements, resources and procedures during tender and project start-up phases and construction.
Manage the off-site design process on Stage 1 and 2 tenders, commencing at 'RIBA Stage 2 or 3 - Concept or Developed Design', in accordance with the Design Management processes and procedures.
Manage the on-site design process at 'RIBA Stage 4 and 5 - Technical Design and Construction', in accordance with the Design Management processes and procedures.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Review the Tender Information including the Employer's Information Requirements and any existing Design Team appointments and determine the scope and extent of all remaining design work, prior to the Tender Start-up meeting.
Verify that the existing Tender (design) Information is compliant, coordinated, affordable (within the existing budget) and buildable prior to the Tender Settlement meeting.
Identify and collate the technical requirements of the project during tender and project start-up phases.
Produce design scope definition document and Design Responsibilities Matrix.
Liaise with prospective designers to agree resource, design programme, design deliverables and milestones.
Manage production of tender-stage design.
Oversee finalization and implementation of project specific arrangements for management and delivery of Contractor's design.
Review the Project Information including the Employer's Requirements, Contractor's Proposals and formally appoint the Design Team and consultants and brief the Design Team on their contractual obligations and their corresponding duties.
Agree, in conjunction with the site team, the specialist subcontractor procurement strategy:
Produce and agree the Project Stage Design Programme and associated Design Deliverables with the primary, secondary and specialist subcontract designers and monitor / report on progress.
Produce and agree the Project Stage Specialist sub-contractor Procurement Schedule and Installation/Commission Programme.
Monitor / report on progress to ensure overall progress against programme is maintained.
Required Skills/Experience:
5-10 years experience as a Design Manager.
Relevant degree/qualifications.
Previous experience working on similar projects or experience working with a main contractor.
