Design with Purpose.

This is a once-in-a-generation transformation of government. We have lots of projects ongoing, and lot of opportunity to influence the design of better public services.

As our new Interaction Designer, you will be:

Part of a brilliant User Centred Design community.
Using data, research and analysis to understand user needs, and developing and testing innovative designs which meet those needs.
Collaboratively designing interaction solutions, engaging your team in the design process
Creating prototypes to test ideas and learn from.
Always designing with consideration for accessibility and inclusion.

Contributing to, and advocating for, our Interaction Design community in DWP, across government and beyond.
Your essential skills and experience:
User focus: Use data from research and analytics to understand user's needs and test designs to meet them.
Evidence and context-based design: Work with others to design solutions that are based on evidence and help identify gaps in knowledge.
Prototyping: Use a variety of prototyping tools and techniques.
Communication: Present your work and share design decisions, explaining ideas in a way that people understand and actively listen to other people's input.
Accessibility: Design with accessibility in mind, showing familiarity with the WCAG 2.1 guidelines and designing to meet AA standards.
Collaboration: Work in the open, engaging others in the design process.

You'll be based in your choice of one of our brilliant digital hubs in Manchester, Blackpool, Birmingham, Leeds, Newcastle or Sheffield, whichever is most convenient for you.

We also have all the tools and tech to work flexibly. We operate a hybrid working model with some time in an office, and some time at home.

We offer competitive pay of up to £43,347 per annum.

You'll be eligible for a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions of 27.9%, worth up to £12,000 a year.

You'll get a generous leave package starting at 26 days, rising to 31 over time.

Plus all the usual bank holidays, and the option to take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi leave.
