Key Information:

Fawkes & Reece are currently recruiting for an established Quantity Surveyor on behalf of a well-established affordable an reputable new build housing contractor. They are actively looking for someone to join their commercial team as soon as possible, for a minimum of six weeks to deliver a bill of quantities and help with take-offs in order to forecast production capabilities across new sites in the new year. This will predominantly be an office-based position, reporting directly to the Commercial Manager and the company is a quality-focused, family-owned company. This position is for a capable Quantity Surveyor who can analyse and produce documentation from the pre-tender and pre-planning stage, to take-offs. Associated elements for cost evaluation may also include sub-contractor packages and contracts, supplier agreements for materials, and standardised documentation processing.

Quantity Surveyor - The Role:

Primarily based in the office, core duties may also include:

Assist with subcontract management from negotiation and preparation of sub-contract orders, on-site management, and final accounts.
Attending weekly commercial and operational meetings to review costings to ensure progression of projects.
Contribute towards a team atmosphere within the department in line with the culture of the business.
Develop internal reporting and forecasting including CVRs.
Ensure adequate representation of commercial interests at site meetings.
Ensure the Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality Policies are being effectively implemented and maintained throughout the company.
Gather data to calculate progress on existing sites and forecast for upcoming site starts.
Manage work in progress (WIP) and retention to minimise risk and exposure.
Preparing and negotiating claims in conjunction with Directors and departmental management.
Providing senior management with a commercial overview against target costs and values.

Skills and Experience:

Degree in Quantity Surveying
Experience working with Registered Providers
Main contracting experience specifically delivering JCT Design & Build contracts
Proven capability in producing a bill of quantities for site take-offs.

In addition to having a minimum of five years' commercial experience, understanding company ethics and procedures will be important. The successful candidate will be ensuring that all associated work is carried out efficiently and professionally while communicating with appropriate company personnel. A university degree or HNC is necessary alongside a history of similar experience in the construction sector. Suitable candidates will also have excellent communication skills at all levels, a good practical awareness and commercial understanding, be capable of embracing various responsibilities and completing all associated paperwork.
