Job Description:

As a Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) in the Maidstone, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with special educational needs (SEN) within a school or educational setting. Your primary responsibility will be to assist the class teacher in creating an inclusive learning environment that caters to the unique needs of individual students. Your duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Student Support:

Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with SEN, both inside and outside the classroom.

Assist students in accessing the curriculum and adapting learning materials to meet their individual needs.

Implement and support specific strategies outlined in the students' Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

Behavior Management:

Help maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment by promoting appropriate behavior and managing challenging behaviors.

Collaborate with the teacher to implement behavior management plans and strategies.

Personal Care and Well-being:

Provide personal care support to students with physical disabilities or additional needs, ensuring their safety, comfort, and dignity.

Promote and support students' emotional well-being, offering guidance, empathy, and reassurance.

Resource Preparation and Adaptation:

Assist in preparing and adapting learning resources, including visual aids, tactile materials, and assistive technology, to facilitate students' learning and engagement.

Record Keeping and Reporting:

Maintain accurate records of students' progress, behavior incidents, and interventions, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations.

Collaborate with the teacher to produce reports and contribute to Individual Education Plan reviews.

Communication and Collaboration:

Foster effective communication channels with parents, guardians, and other professionals involved in students' care.

Attend meetings, participate in team discussions, and contribute to multidisciplinary collaboration to support students' holistic development.

Inclusion and Integration:

Promote the inclusion and integration of students with SEN into mainstream classrooms and school activities, fostering a sense of belonging and encouraging positive social interactions.

Training and Professional Development:

Engage in continuous professional development opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills in supporting students with SEN.

Stay up-to-date with best practices and strategies in special education.

Qualifications and Skills:

Relevant experience working with students with special educational needs is highly desirable.

A compassionate and patient approach when working with students.

Good communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals.

Understanding of different learning needs and the ability to adapt teaching techniques accordingly.

Knowledge of relevant safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.

Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of students and the school environment.

An understanding of relevant SEN legislation and policies is beneficial.
