We are currently recruiting for an experienced Assistant Manager (Asphalt) to join and lead our friendly operations team at Tarmac Exeter Asphalt Plant in Exeter, Devon. As well as Exeter, this role is easily accessible from Exmouth, Exminster, Sidmouth, Seaton, Honiton, Cullompton, Tiverton, Crediton, Taunton, Axminster, Chard, Torquay, Teignmouth, Bovey Tracey, Newton Abbot and surrounding areas.

Main ResponsibilitiesThe Assistant Manager (Asphalt) is responsible for supporting with the management of the Plant, taking ownership of performance and quality, achieving and maximising the efficiency of the production process and delivering a preventative maintenance scheme for fixed and mobile plant - delivery to customer needs and performance improvement being key. Managing site compliance with business policies and procedures and ensuring legislative compliance is also a strong aspect of the role.

As Assistant Manager (Asphalt) you will also be responsible for:

Managing, coaching and developing a highly skilled, fit for purpose and extremely motivated team to ensure business continuity and reduce business risk
Leading change and continuous improvement initiatives, whilst maintaining disciplined stock management processes and producing operational reports
Knowledge of techniques employed to load extracted minerals and viable options to transport extracted minerals
All aspects of budgetary control for all site operations
Maintaining and implementing existing and new, Standard Operating Procedures, risk assessments and training your staff on the same
Managing and overseeing the safe operation of the sites and the planned preventative maintenance of all of the sites equipment, fixed and mobile
Reporting and investigating any unsafe or hazardous working practices
Issuing of safety briefings and toolbox talks to your operational team
Managing proactively both mandatory training and developmental training of your staff and keep an up-to-date training matrix
Collating and report on monthly performance KPI and driving operational performance through KPIsKey Stakeholders you will liaise within the responsibilities of this role:

Operational Team, Operational Performance Team, Site Manager, SHE Team, Technical Team, HR Team, Hauliers, HSE, Regulatory Bodies as well as Customers.

This role is a Days role Monday to Friday, but flexibility is key to this role with the expectation to be available to meet with our Plant operational and customer needs as well.

The Ideal CandidateTo be successful in the role of Assistant Manager (Asphalt) you will ideally have experience and knowledge of different methods of winning and extracting raw material as well as knowledge of techniques employed to load extracted minerals and viable options to transport extracted minerals and its applications within the industry, including feeding, crushing, screening, washing, separation, classification and beneficiation techniques.

Suitable candidates for the role of Assistant Manager (Asphalt) will:

Possess proven competence of different methods of extracting raw material without risk of causing injury or damage whilst optimising overall operating costs
Understand the Quarry Regulations 1999
Possess Reg 8.1c accredited status
Know performance and competency requirements for all operational roles on site including contractors and sub-contractors
Understand the impact of production processes on sustainability
Understand the principles of operation of mobile and static plant equipment to produce and process a consistent product to customer and BS EN specifications minimising any waste
Understand the maintenance processes required to maximise availability and cost base on the range of mobile and static plant including modes of failure, first line maintenance and specific maintenance activities
Understand how to undertake basic maintenance tasks
Communicate confidently using a range of techniques
Confidently be able to plan, structure and present meetings and briefings
Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Be organised and capable of managing competing priorities
