Optimise by Recruitment are excited to be working alongside a global leader in steel production and engineering. We are delighted to assist in recruiting for a steam plant engineer who is responsible for overseeing the operations and monitoring of the steam plant, river water systems, and related facilities.Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
* Operate and monitor the steam plant, river pumps, and associated equipment to fulfil Melting Shop Production and Process requirements.
* Manage additional gas-fired plant and equipment, such as annealing furnaces, on-site.
* Supervise and control river water pumps, ring main system, and reservoir operations to meet specified requirements.
* Utilise computerised systems for plant monitoring and accurate record-keeping.
* Perform First Line plant maintenance as needed.
* Conduct chemical analysis tests on Steam Generator feed water, record results, and adjust dosing as necessary.
* Record meter readings for gas/water and any relevant services connected to the role.
Ensure the availability of steam for production requirements and site water for quenching needs.
* Replace glands for river water pumps.
* Strip, clean, and rebuild the river auto strainer.
* Monitor and replenish river pump lubrication.
* Remove debris from river pumps, including replacing pump lids.
* Remove, clean, and change pipework integral to river pumps.
* Refurbish and refit steam traps.
* Remove and refit safety valves.
* Remove and refit water feed pumps.
* Drain steam generator coils.
* Remove and refit air-actuated valves.
* Replace steam joints/gaskets.
* Remove and replace steam valves.
* Isolate boiler gas supply.
* Remove and refit the gas burner.
* Assist in pressure testing boilers to meet company insurance requirements.
* Remove, isolate (blanking off), and rebuild mainstream inlet/outlets.
* Handle lifting and slinging.
Personal Qualifications:
* Solid engineering background and prior experience in an engineering role.
* Intermediate computer literacy in MS Office (Excel, Word & PowerPoint) is essential.
* Consistent production of reports promptly.
Desired Qualifications:
* Previous experience in steam plant operations.
* Some electrical knowledge would be advantageous.
* Apprenticeship training and attainment of HNC/NVQ Level 3 in engineering or equivalent experience
