Trainee Systems Support Engineer

Kettering

£24,750 increasing to £32,000 after training + exceptional benefits

Our client is recognized as a UK market leader in the area of automated materials handling system solutions using bespoke in-house software, and as a result of continued success and an ongoing programme of strategic growth for 2024, they are now looking to recruit an articulate and enthusiastic Trainee Systems Support Engineer to complement their existing support team.

As a Trainee Systems Support Engineer, you will be provided with all of the necessary technical training required to allow you to provide support with a range of customer issues and escalate any matters that are unable to be resolved through normal channels, liaising extensively with customers and engineers in the field to ensure a seamless and consistently high-quality service level is maintained at all times.

Products supported are based within a range of customer sites spread the length of the UK and across Europe where they provide business critical support and maintenance remotely from both home and Head Office locations. The solutions "sit" in a Linux environment and interface to a wide range of mechanical equipment and customer host interfaces, and the role of the Trainee Systems Support professional is to provide support for the automated material handling systems within the Production environment of the extensive customer base through the application of the 24 x 7 x 365 hotline function, whilst working in accordance with the Risk Assessment, Safe System of Work and Workplace Risk Assessments provided by the company.

The successful Trainee Systems Support Engineer will, over time, gain the experience and necessary technical skills to undertake a 24 x 7 technical support function, identifying and resolving issues on a range of automated material handling systems and associated control systems.

You will perform basic maintenance activities to ensure that consistent delivery is sustained and assist customers in logging issues within the company ticketing system and ensuring they are then picked up by a Hotline Engineer for investigation and resolution. Other responsibilities will include writing and updating knowledgebase articles, undertaking the resolution of client issues, supporting and assisting the account management team (including site visits as appropriate), managing the escalation procedure of customer issues as and when required and integrating with the complementary Controls support function counterparts to deliver a seamless and enhanced service.

Initially working on a 9-5 Monday to Friday basis from Kettering during training before transferring across to the full rota shift pattern (and increase in salary) on 6am - 2pm, 2pm to 10pm and 10pm to 6am rotating and 6pm to 6am Saturdays and Sundays (around once a month), the successful candidates will be trained in providing assistance on a range of live issues and provide extensive internal and external customer support to ensure that contractual maintenance and service obligations are maintained.

In an environment committed to the highest levels of health and safety and customer satisfaction, the Trainee Systems Support Engineer will realistically be qualified to degree level or equivalent in a relevant STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths) and hold a full clean UK driving licence, as occasional trips to customer sites may be required. You will demonstrate exceptional communication skills at all levels and be comfortable in working both autonomously and as part of a team, and possess knowledge and familiarity in scripting language, Linux Text Processing, SSH access using Keys, Red Hat, JIRA / Incident Tracking Systems, handling 1st and/or 2nd level support calls, Networking (TCP/IP), Server Monitoring and Cyber Security.
