Job Description:

As a Locum Band 6 or 7 Community Occupational Therapist within a Community Neuro-Rehabilitation and Stroke Team, your role is to provide specialized occupational therapy services to individuals recovering from neurological conditions and stroke within the community setting. Working on a temporary or contract basis, you will fill in for absent or vacant positions within the team, supporting patients on their journey towards regaining independence and improving their quality of life.

Responsibilities:

1.

Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct comprehensive assessments of individuals with neurological conditions and stroke to determine their functional abilities, limitations, and goals. Utilize standardized assessments, clinical observations, and interviews to identify areas of impairment and develop appropriate treatment plans.

2.

Rehabilitation Planning and Intervention: Collaborate with patients, their families, and the multidisciplinary team to develop individualized rehabilitation plans. Implement evidence-based occupational therapy interventions, including cognitive, physical, and psychosocial rehabilitation, to promote recovery and enhance functional independence.

3.

Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Training: Provide training and support in activities of daily living, such as dressing, grooming, bathing, and meal preparation, to help patients regain independence in their self-care routines.

4.

Cognitive Rehabilitation: Offer cognitive rehabilitation interventions to address cognitive deficits resulting from neurological conditions or stroke. Implement strategies to improve memory, attention, problem-solving, and executive functioning skills.

5.

Upper Limb Rehabilitation: Design and deliver upper limb rehabilitation programs to address difficulties with fine motor skills, coordination, and functional use of the affected arm and hand.

6.

Home Assessment and Modifications: Conduct home assessments to identify potential barriers to independence and safety. Recommend environmental modifications and assistive devices to facilitate patients' return to their home environment.

7.

Community Integration: Facilitate community reintegration and participation in meaningful activities by supporting patients in engaging in hobbies, leisure pursuits, and vocational pursuits.

8.

Carer Training and Support: Provide education and training to family members and caregivers to enhance their ability to support the patient's rehabilitation journey and address their ongoing needs.

9.

Collaborative Care: Work closely with physiotherapists, speech therapists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in the Community Neuro-Rehabilitation and Stroke Team to coordinate care and ensure holistic support for patients.

10.

Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and outcomes measurement in accordance with legal and ethical standards. Ensure confidentiality and privacy of patient information.

11.

Continuous Professional Development: Stay updated with the latest research, advancements, and best practices in neuro-rehabilitation and stroke management. Engage in professional development activities, such as attending relevant training, conferences, and workshops. Seek supervision and engage in reflective practice to ensure professional growth.

Qualifications and Requirements:

* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy.

* Registration with the relevant professional regulatory body.

* Significant experience working as an Occupational Therapist in neuro-rehabilitation and stroke settings.

* Knowledge of neurological conditions, stroke, and evidence-based occupational therapy interventions.

* Strong clinical assessment and intervention skills.

* Proficiency in using outcome measures and goal setting in rehabilitation planning.

* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.

* Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with other healthcare professionals.

* Flexibility and adaptability to work within a locum or temporary role.

* Adherence to professional ethics, confidentiality, and data protection regulations
