Role Purpose:
My client has a clear strategy for its Vehicle Mobility Division, aiming to develop a strong and broad-based business that can provide Adapted Vehicles to all key markets in the UK. To achieve this vision, we are seeking an experienced Managing Director with proven leadership skills, a commercial mindset in terms of selling and procurement, and a strong ability to problem solve and make sound decisions that encourage continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to grow into a divisional role that will cover sites across the UK.
Key Interfaces:
Internal: You will collaborate closely with the Engineering, Financial & Commercial Directors, Operations & After-Care Managers, as well as the General Managers of any stand-alone Hire & Used businesses (if acquired). Additionally, you will work closely with Head Office and Divisional Management.
External: Your role will involve engaging with key B2B Customers, Vehicle OEMs, Motability, and essential Suppliers.
Duties of the Managing Director:
As the Managing Director, your key responsibilities will include:
* Leading the company and ensuring all employees buy into the company's vision.
* Setting the overall strategic direction of the company alongside the Board.
* Planning and implementing long-term business strategies to achieve the company's objectives.
* Meeting with stakeholders on a regular basis to review the company's financial performance.
* Effectively managing this Group of businesses to ensure best practices are followed, costs are controlled, and the Company maximizes revenue generation and operating profit.
* Setting budgets and company-wide KPIs to continuously improve company performance in all areas.
* Analysing opportunities for growth in market segments to drive profitability.
* Overseeing the regular advance purchase of vehicles in line with projected customer demand to ensure continuous assembly plant loading.
* Developing strong relationships with the key Vehicle OEMs and their distributors.
* Building a strong relationship with key customers, including Motability and large B2B accounts.
* Taking a keen interest in the WAV/Conversion Industry and the main trade bodies, including WAVCA and SMMT.
* Keeping a close eye on technical developments in the Industry and guiding the business, alongside other Directors, to address these changes in a timely manner.
* Implementing effective succession planning for senior members of the company to ensure seamless departmental management.
Background of the Managing Director:
To be successful in this role, you should have the following qualifications and experience:
* Proven track record of successfully managing similar-sized organizations, ideally within a Special Purpose Vehicle / Converter / Specialist Vehicle sales business.
* Proven working experience as a Managing Director, Commercial Director, or equivalent relevant role.
* Proven operational track record in a smaller business that requires a "hands-on" "can-do" attitude.
* Sound knowledge of the vehicle conversion / SPV / B2B vehicle conversion Industry would be beneficial.
Key Skills & Desirable Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following skills and qualifications:
* An ability to plan, coordinate, and provide leadership in all sales and commercial aspects of the business.
* An ability to delegate and manage multiple operations effectively.
* Ideally Degree level; however, HNC/HND will be considered with the right experience / track record.
* Good written and oral communication skills to support decisions and recommendations.
* Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and natural leader / motivator.
* Knowledge and awareness of up-to-date digital marketing and selling techniques.
* Target-driven and results-focused individual.
* Proficiency in MS Office and understanding of the key attributes and benefits of a strong CRM system.
* Able to learn quickly and adapt positively to changing business and customer demands.
