Job summary
I am currently hiring for the position of a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a vibrant team based in Burton on Trent, working on an ever growing portfolio of clients of which projects include, Rail, Civil works, M&E and Commercial Buildings.Over the past few years my client has successfully increased its client base and grown the business substantially. With exciting new projects confirmed for 2024 and beyond, our client is now recruiting for a Senior QS to work closely with the Commercial Manager to help continue that growth and sustainability of the business.
The forecasted growth of the business and accounts for the coming years gives a great opportunity for the successful candidate to progress their career.
The projects involved currently will include small works projects and larger projects, with Contracts covering NEC3 & 4 and some JCT contracts too!
The successful candidate must be able to work in a team, bring knowledge and experience to the commercial team and be self driven with an enthusiasm to drive the business forwards.

General
* Provide pre and post commercial advice/ support to the operational teams
* Support the operational teams in providing a customer focused service and attaining the highest standards of operational delivery to maximise projects profitability and minimise risk
* Support the projects by providing advice and feedback in the promotion of best commercial practice throughout the company
Corporate governance
* Ensure completion of contract documentation and support the Commercial Manager to undertake contract reviews and negotiations to align with governance requirements
* Ensure all bonds and warranties are agreed in accordance with commercial and group procedures
* Manage and monitor the contract terms and conditions along with contractual obligations
* Support the Commercial Manager in the resolution of contractual disputes
Bid requirement/ Business growth
* Support the bidding process commercially
* Where new opportunities are identified to ensure each tender has the appropriate level of review and tender risk assessment
* Protect stakeholder interests through full use of the company governance framework during the tendering gateways
Sub-Contractor Management
* Ensure that subcontract orders are professional, accurate, comprehensive and issued prior to commencement on site
* Provide advice and support to the operational team such that subcontracts reflect the contract specific requirements in addition to the company standard terms
Financial Performance
* Support the Operation Teams in the development and updates of the Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs)
* Be influential in the maximisation of profit margins
* Liaise with operational and finance staff to ensure that work in progress and debt levels are not allowed to build up in the business undetected
* Ensure that all customer variations are maximised, documented, priced and agreed at the earliest opportunity
* Work effectively with the project teams in the identification of cost overspend to maximise profit

Qualifications
· Educated to degree level or equivalent (desirable)
· Professional membership of a relevant organisation would be desirable
Training/experience
· A solid Quantity Surveying background in either Commercial, M&E or Rail would be beneficial.
· Proven record of contract negotiation, risk management and contract implementation
Skills
· Team player
· Able to communicate clearly and expressively
· Skilled negotiator, with proven experience in a commercial environment
· Good financial acumen with an ability to analyse complex data and documentation
· Capable of influencing within cross-functional teams
· Must have strong leadership skills in a negotiating and deal closing environment
· A full driving licence in essential
· Works well under pressure and can meet tight deadlines
