Job summary
We are currently working with one of the worlds leading engineering and consulting groups, who are looking to hire a Principal Traction Power Engineer to join their always expanding engineering team In York on a hybrid basis.The suitable candidate will focus on the delivery of HV Design projects in the UK and Ireland with the opportunity for involvement in global project delivery.
The Principal Traction Power / HV Electrical Engineers main duties will be to establish and lead a team of Electrical Engineers responsible for traction power and HV design projects, reporting to the Team Leader / Discipline Lead M&E, act as Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) and Lead Engineer on traction power and HV electrical projects allocated to them by the Discipline Lead M&E.
Responsibilities:
Ensuring projects are completed to meet all clients requirements and applicable standards.
Ensuring projects are completed to the agreed project programme and budget.
Plan the project works to enable the team leader to allocate suitable resource to the projects.
Identify changes to the projects client requirements and raise the changes with the Project Management Team. Providing monthly cost to completion forecasts.
Ensuring the training and development needs of the traction power team are met to serve the clients/projects requirements.
Management of electrical engineers on Traction Power / HV projects.
Experience Required:
Qualified to HNC or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or similar field.
Ideally an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer.
Professional experience in both HV and LV applications, particularly with a focus on Traction Power Design.
Good knowledge of conventional rail traction power systems, including 25kV AC, which is essential.
Knowledge of high-speed rail, light rail/metro, 1500V DC, 750V DC is an advantage.
Demonstrate familiarity with client standards and related technical specifications from organizations such as National Grid, SSE, Scottish Power, UKPN, WPD, ENWL, etc.
Detailed knowledge of multi-disciplinary issues associated with HV and traction power design.
Detailed knowledge of construction principles and standards associated with HV and traction power design.
Flexibility in working hours will be required to meet the demands of the role.
Ability to travel to client sites and other offices will be required.
