Job summary
Communications OfficerThe Role:
The Communications Officer, based in St Albans but with a national coverage, will plan and deliver key messages to our employees, stakeholders and clients in a complex communication environment, engaging with site and office teams, our extended supply chain and client organisations. Delivery of these messages plays a hugely important role in our success. The Communications Lead will have the opportunity to develop skills as a specialist in a busy and forward-thinking organisation, helping to take us to the global stage by writing compelling content for internal and external communications as well as award submissions. Given the sensitivities around the role, the person will need to adhere to strict protocols, processes and confidentiality whilst having an acute attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities:
External Communications
Plan, draft and seek approval for press releases and social media posts relating to business strategy, project milestones and key messages
Populate the website with key company updates and news stories
Researching, drafting and seeking approval for technical and feature publications
Contribution to Barhale Today (externally facing newsletter)
Marketing
Research, coordinate and draft industry award submissions
Research and draft project and themed case studies
Contribute to marketing campaigns
Internal Communications
Contribute and draft internal communications via email and Yammer
Contribute to corporate coms (proactive and reactive)
Research and draft content for Barhale News
Administration
Manage the communication content planner
Ensure adherence to communications approval process (technical, senior management, HSEQ, Client)
Filling/Sharing
Monthly reports and stats
Key Measures & Targets:
Weekly meetings to set day to day targets
Monthly meetings to set longer term targets
Social media and press stats
Key Relationships:
Business Development & Communications Director, Marketing & Communications Manager, regional heads and site teams in addition to external stakeholders and contacts
Key support services across Barhale and external customers, and professional construction industry entities
Person Specification:
The successful candidate is likely to meet all of the following criteria:
Essential
An understanding of what makes good content and how to create and curate it
Experience of collating information for document compilation and production
High standard of written English
Strong attention to detail, excellent grammar and ability to write compelling copy
Good communication skills, including professional telephone manner
Ability to liaise with staff/operatives of all levels within the Company
Proficient with Microsoft Office, InDesign a bonus
Positive and confident, with drive, enthusaism and passion
Strong organisational skills with a methodical/systematic approach
Ability to work in a team and also on own, using own initiative
Excellent time management skills, with ability to work to tight deadlines
Ability to drive (visits to sites and other offices essential)
