Job summary

The Infrastructure & Projects Authority (IPA) offers access to the most stimulating challenges. As a central team of project delivery, finance and infrastructure experts, we improve the way infrastructure and major projects are delivered. Enabling the development and success of the Government's most important programmes of work, we report directly to the Cabinet Office and HM Treasury, working in a client-facing capacity to advise and guide individual Ministerial departments on key projects. We have an ambition to create the best performing project system of any country in the world, resulting in a culture of continuous improvement - making for a truly dynamic working environment. Join us in this exciting work, and be at the heart of some of the country's most ambitious programmes.

This is a senior client-facing role in which you will set the strategic direction for large-scale projects being undertaken by the Departments of Health & Social Care, Education, and Work and Pensions, plus the Cabinet Office, HM Treasury and Office of National Statistics. Driving a change agenda, you will determine the feasibility of proposed programmes of work, supporting SROs in delivering them. As such, you will need to build exceptional working relationships with key stakeholders in each team, becoming a trusted advisor so that you can influence their outputs. Deploying commercial and financial resources as you see fit, you will ensure the Prime Minister's Mandate is being implemented in all major projects, with a close eye on non-compliance. Intervening in complex projects or those that you deem to be troubled, you will maintain strategic oversight of the entire portfolio, tackling risks and implementing the appropriate levels of governance.

The scope to get involved in nationally-important projects is quite immense. Just some of the challenges that you will face will be related to the Government's ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and you will tackle programmes to build 40 hospitals, initiatives to build new schools, and challenges relating to the transformation of our welfare system. To be equal to a role of this magnitude, you will therefore hold a professional membership of a relevant technical institution, and you will have a background in project, programme or portfolio delivery or assurance. Coming from either the public or private sector, we will expect you to be well versed in leading large-scale transformation projects or programmes. With the capacity to engage at Ministerial level, you will be a highly influential team-player who always sees the bigger picture.

When you become a member of the IPA team, you will benefit from a great work/life balance, enhanced by numerous staff wellbeing initiatives. And with a package that includes a competitive salary, desirable pension scheme and generous annual leave, we are confident that you will feel valued. But more than that, this is an exciting opportunity to help the Government deliver on some of its key manifesto commitments. While no two days will ever be the same, you will find continuity in the support that you receive from senior colleagues, plus the chance to share your expertise with an ambitious team. So join us in our vital work, and take your career to the next level.

Apply before 11:55 pm on Sunday 22nd November 2020.
