Healthcare Start-Ups UK is a healthcare recruitment agency working with various providers around the UK. Our most recent client in Burton on Trent is a new service for children and Young people is looking for a Deputy Manager.Working as part of a team for a specialist provider of care to Children and Young People in residential settings whos philosophy is to support young individuals from all backgrounds and to provide them with a safe & stable home environment. The overall aims is to support children and young people develop and learn life skills, enjoy and achieve and be the best versions of themselves. The children & young people you support may experience social, emotional and behavior difficulties due to their past life experiences.
Directly line managed by the Registered Manager. A Deputy Manager is responsible for supporting children and young people achieve their best possible outcomes in order to live a fulfilling life within a safe and nurturing environment, support the day to day running of the home alongside the Registered Manager, delegate duties and take accountability for decision making, support the Registered Manager in ensuring the home is meeting compliance with legislation and regulations, support to develop the staff team to raise the standards of the home, support the Registered Manager to create a positive culture and practice within the home. This includes meeting the requirements of a professional persona, working within a homely environment free from judgment, blame or shame. Occasionally the job role may have a requirement to meet the demands of working on a Rota ensuring consistent support to the young people accommodated and will include some on-call duties. This is enshrined in a knowledge base incorporating health & safety, non-oppressive practice, anti-discriminatory practice & equality, child protection, child care legislation and regulations, as well as the companies policies and procedures; and in line with the homes Statement of Purpose.
Experience
* Must have at least 2 years expeience working within a residential setting
* Managing a team
* Working closely with the Manager
* Working within Childrens Regulations 2015
* Organising staff training from external provider
* To conduct the Home in a way that promotes and make provisions for the welfare of the young people referred by placing authorities and accommodated within Midlands Care Services.
* To ensure that systems are developed and are in place to regularly monitor and adhere to The Childrens Homes Regulations 2015.
* To provide supervision and support for all members of staff, to ensure high standards of professional care and practice based on the individual needs of the Young People.
* To participate in an acting managers role when the Registered manager is taking annual leave.
* Plan and implementing models of care and activities for individual young people by working together with other professional colleagues (schools, staff, social workers and other health and local authority staff) and to maintain close liaison with their colleagues in this respect.
* Ensure the allocation of staff duties are clearly and adequately defined.
* Organize staff training when required in-house and external.
* Maintaining reports and records in respect of individual young persons and their progress, and attending relevant meetings, care reviews, parents evenings etc. and make relevant referrals to other agencies should the need be.
* Ensure that all drugs and medicines are properly stored and controlled and administered as prescribed by each Young Persons general practitioner.
* Maintain good order in the Home by ensuring all house equipment and furniture is kept in good condition and that any defective furniture/equipment is reported to your line manager.
* Enable Young People to develop and maintain relationships with staff through consultation.
* Report issues of any service needs, whatever the nature which, directly or indirectly affects the organization.
* Ensure that all relevant documentation is completed and accurate.
* Participate in the recruitment, selection, interviewing and induction of new staff.
* Ensure that all changes to policies and procedures are ratified by the Registered Manager prior to publication.
* Exercise effective leadership of the Home operations and Care staff, such that the Home is organized, managed and staffed in a manner that delivers the best possible care.
* Ensure that the Home staffing levels is adequate to meet the Statement of Purpose and the staffing is evaluated in practice to meet the needs of the children accommodated there.
* Ensure that all newly appointed staff (including any agency, Temporary, volunteer, and student staff) are taken through the induction training program and have signed as having done so and to ensure that a current DBS and safer recruitment processes have been followed.
* Ensure that all staff are clear about accountability and reporting lines, and the procedures to be followed in relation to emergencies, health and safety, child protection and notification of incidents, including fire evacuation procedures and regulations
* Ensure you update the Registered manager with regular reports and updates of the Homes operation.
* Carry out duties in compliance with the company's Equal Opportunities Policy
* Carry out duties in compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and subsequent Health and Safety legislation
