Job summary
Principal Electrical Design Engineer Stafford area £65-70k + benefitsThis is a chance to join a successful and expanding engineering and manufacturing company in Staffordshire.
Involves: Principal electrical design engineer
* Planning and coordinating team and project activities
* Developing and implementing engineering product development processes (e.g. APQP, PPAP, etc)
* Mentoring and guiding electrical design engineers
* Liaising with project managers, test, development, production, etc
As principal engineer you will work as a team leader of a small team of experienced engineers to develop electrical systems for power generating and energy storage products based around diesel, hybrid and hydrogen combustion engine technologies. You will be involved with the design and integration of electrical systems for new and existing products.
As principal engineer you will need good leadership, planning and coordinating skills and be able to mentor and guide engineers and develop engineering procedures and processes.
Required: Principal electrical design engineer
* A professional engineering qualification (HNC, HND, Degree) in a relevant subject (e.g. electrical engineering, automotive engineering, power generation, etc)
* Strong technical leadership skills (able to lead, mentor and guide electrical design engineers)
* Excellent knowledge of engineering product development processes and best practice (e.g. APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, DVP, 8D, etc)
* Demonstrable experience of the design and integration of electrical systems (ideally for high volume applications e.g. automotive, charging infrastructure, generators, etc)
* Able to produce electrical schematics and specify components
* Able to support build, integration, test and commissioning activities
* Experience of creating, implementing or refining product development processes
Experience of HV electrical systems design may be useful but LV systems and good knowledge of LV directives is OK. Automotive / avionics / rolling stock electrical systems design would be fine.

As well as the above requirements, the senior electrical engineer should have;
* Good communication skills (written / verbal).
* Be confident and able to deal with customers and liaise with various engineering and manufacturing teams.
* Have good experience and knowledge of LV directives (ideally 18th edition.)
* The ability to specify test and validation processes and procedures.
* Experience of risk management, failure mode effect analysis (FMEA) would be good.
* Use of CAD systems for schematic design would be good (e.g. AutoCAD etc)
This principal electrical design role is based on site in Hixon near Stafford. It is commutable from Stafford, Derby, Stoke-on-Trent, Burton-upon-Trent, Telford, Cannock, Rugeley, Lichfield, Walsall, Wolverhampton, and Tamworth
