Job summary
The Opportunity:For this Group Financial Accountant position, you will be part of an established Financial Control team of ten sitting within a broader finance team.
The Finance Hub is a large central team of skilled professional colleagues with the collective core purpose of supporting the financial sustainability and integrity of the organisation.
Some of the key responsibilities for this successful person would be but no limited to:
* Reporting directly into the Head of Accounting and Control, you will also have responsibility for taxation and technical accounting services, offering advice, support, and challenge to the organisation across these disciplines
* You will manage the production and ongoing development of the Integrated Annual Report, as well as delivering of high-quality financial reporting for their group companies
* Produce the organisation and Group Annual Financial Statements and support the other annual financial returns
* Be responsible for the production of the Annual Report and Accounts for all UK subsidiary and joint venture companies within the Group
* Act as a key point of contact with the external audit of the organisation and all Group entities, and to plan the year-end process.
* Produce the quarterly group accounts for inclusion in the quarterly financial management reports
* Support in the preparation of the organisations five-year financial forecasts
* Provide fixed asset accounting and reporting
* Produce the annual Corporation Tax Returns (CTR) of the organisation and its subsidiary companies in order to comply with the legal obligation
* Provide support in tax compliance matter for the organisation and Group, namely covering corporation taxes and VAT, including for overseas subsidiaries
* Be responsible for the month-end control account reconciliation process and be support in the maintenance of finance policies
* Support the Head of Accounting and Control, and wider senior management team, to provide critical thinking on financial and tax implications of new strategic initiatives and projects, both UK and overseas
* Provide leadership for the Financial Accounts team, including progression and development planning through coaching and performance management
* Deputise for the Head of Accounting and Control at relevant meetings and committees and to represent the organisations financial interests, taking the lead role in influencing and informing internal and external stakeholders
The Candidate:
The successful Group Financial Accountant will be/have:
* Professional and qualified CCAB accountant
* Post-qualification financial experience, preferably in a large, complex organisation
* with robust technical skills and analytical mindset
* Experience of working with senior management from a range of disciplines
* You will have a high degree of self-motivation, a proactive approach with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Up-to-date understanding of financial reporting, technical accounting, taxation and financial control
* Excellent organisational skills and ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines
* Strong IT skills and understanding of financial systems and controls
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage and influence senior stakeholders and external contacts
* Proven management skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and lead effectively
* High drive and initiative, able to demonstrate professional resilience
* Strong track record of building strong working relationships with external stakeholders and external advisors
* Proactive, organised with a keen attention to detail
Desired
* Understanding of the Education sector in general and research-intensive organisations would be beneficial
* Experience of using SAP finance system
