We're seeking a highly skilled and proactive Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement Engineer to join our team based in Aylesbury. The ideal candidate will play a key role in driving continuous improvement initiatives, managing equipment installation, promoting efficiency, and ensuring the smooth operation of our manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support the Production Engineering Manager in providing effective support to the manufacturing business.
* Organise, plan, commission, and maintain production equipment.
* Promote a "Visual Management" method of communication for enhanced process understanding.
* Advocate a Continuous Improvement philosophy in all aspects of the role.
* Communicate risks or concerns promptly to enable recovery action planning.
* Ensure adherence to company procedures and standards.
* Manage constraints and secure necessary support from the Production Engineering Manager.
* Uphold high levels of housekeeping and employ methodologies like 5S for a clean and organised manufacturing environment.
* Supervise and control pre-agreed overtime in consultation with the Production Engineering Manager.
* Develop processes, tools, and techniques to align with best practices and identify cost-saving opportunities.
* Collaborate with Design Engineers to optimise designs for machining (DFM).
* Analyse assembly process problems, identify constraints, and initiate improvement actions.
* Collect data, investigate non-conformances, and implement corrective actions.
* Support production staff in meeting daily targets, ensuring efficient machining processes.
* Provide assistance in manufacturing engineering activities and contribute to long-term manufacturing strategies.
* Generate and maintain process documentation including PFMEA, control plans, flow charts, and layout documentation.
* Specify designs for fixtures and tooling for in-house or subcontracted manufacture.
* Perform additional Production Engineer activities as required.
Required Skills and Experience:
* Degree qualified in manufacturing/production engineering with experience in low to medium-volume high-quality fabrication and assembly environments.
* Proficiency in Lean/Six Sigma methodologies to at least a yellow belt standard or demonstrable experience in Continuous Improvement initiatives.
* Experience in metal forming, fabrication, pressing, and related equipment.
* Proven ability to manage the installation and commissioning of production equipment.
* Skill in conceptualising and specifying assembly tooling and equipment.
* Proficient in IT systems and possess a good level of PC literacy.
* Background in working within a Quality environment.
* Experience in project management for equipment installation using FATs and SATs.
