Job summary
Job Title: Senior Embedded Software EngineerLocation: Peterborough
Contract Type: Inside IR35, initially 12 months with a view to extend.
Working Arrangement: Fulltime 37 per week, onsite Tuesday and Wednesday, 3rd day to be agreed, remaining hours remote.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join our clients European Controls & Software team, who are responsible for advancing engine control system development and battery management software for their powertrain programs. This role focuses on designing and developing cutting-edge controls and software for diesel, hybrid, and electric power systems, contributing to more sustainable, low-carbon solutions for industrial and off-highway applications.

Role Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements for advanced diesel engines and hybrid power systems, ensuring alignment with sustainability goals.
* Develop control algorithms and software models using Matlab, Simulink, and Stateflow to meet software requirements for powertrain systems.
* Perform control system tuning and calibration activities to achieve optimal system performance on test benches or development machines.
* Conduct sub-system Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), manage design actions, and validate solutions to enhance system reliability.
* Plan and execute verification and validation testing for electronics/control system software in various environments (SiL, HiL, on-test bed).
* Troubleshoot and resolve electronics/control system issues encountered during engine or power system operations.
Experience Required:
* Matlab, Simulink and Stateflow experience is essential and must have been used it to create Control Algorithms.
* 5-7 years' experience in diesel engine or hybrid power systems development.
* Proficiency in Matlab, Simulink, and Stateflow for model-based software design and development, creating embedded software.
* Experience in at least 2/3 of the specified systems (diesel engines, hybrid power systems, etc.).
* Knowledge of software FMEA and validation plan creation is essential.
Preferred Experience:
* Experience of HiL test equipment and the ability to programme automated tests.
* Knowledge of software version control systems, ideally GiT or Clearcase.
* Knowledge of / prior experience of developing software to meet functional safety requirements.
* Automotive or off-highway industry experience, specifically with diesel engine knowledge, is crucial.
* Truck manufacturing experience focusing on diesel engines would be highly beneficial.
Qualifications:
* Strong technical background (good technical degree preferred in mechanical, electronic, electrical, control systems or automotive engineering) though other qualifications / experience will be considered.
