The team

The Design and Build (D&B) business unit at 5R consists of a team of in house specialists working nationwide, delivering projects from concept through to build by our in-house contracting team. The team deliver projects that aim to protect and/or enhance the natural environment in line with our company mission, supporting broad range of clients and sectors with their environmental projects.

Our specialism is in the delivery of projects in the water environment, with a holistic understanding of the interface between land and water and the sensitive management of catchments and their varied stakeholders. An example of our design and build projects include: wetlands creation for nutrient mitigation, natural flood management, river restoration and habitat enhancement, fish passage and easements.

Sustainability is at the core of our projects and 5R values, and we seek the implementation of nature based solutions for societies problems, with designs focused on working with natural processes providing benefits for people and the environment.

The role - Principal Environmental Consultant

We have an exciting role available for an experienced Principal Consultant to join our growing team of passionate people delivering a diverse portfolio of projects. As an integral member of the D&B team you will be involved in monitoring resources, managing budgets, mentoring and developing staff, project management, client liaison and relationship management, You will also be involved in the preparation of successful bids and tender proposals and general business development activities. Your role will include leading and coordinating projects from design concept to detailed design, providing our clients with build ready schemes that impart our real world buildability we are known for.

About you

The position requires a wide range of skills including, but not limited to the following:

Proactive and ambitious, with a proven history of understanding clients environmental needs and identifying solutions. Focussed on added value for our clients, the environment and society you will have a core skills to influence people and project outputs.
Complimentary to your technical knowledge and environmental credentials will be your commercial acumen, identifying opportunities for business development and influencing decisions made at team level.
You will be experienced at the preparation of fee estimates, proposal writing and general business development activities.
Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with demonstrable experience of managing several projects at any one time. Management of people and project deliverables with ensure successful leadership of technical outputs, providing coordination and management of all stages of the design process.
You will be adept at the coordination of multiple inputs from different technical teams and external stakeholders, balancing the needs of all and prioritising outputs from your team of people.
You will be knowledgeable in and have a robust understanding the role of designer under Construction Design Management (2015).

You may also have experience in the following: Ecologist, Principal Ecologist, Senior Ecologist, Ecology, Ecosystems, Environmental Issues, Biologist, Conservation, Environmental Consultant, Wetland management, River Improvement, Geomorphology etc.
