Our client is one of the UKs leading independent scientific companys, providing laboratory analysis to the agriculture, food, and environmental sectors. We are excited to announce that due to significant business growth we are supporting the company to recruit a Laboratory Manager, to join the team on a permanent basis.
This role will provide leadership for the microbiology department, ensuring that processes and policies are well implemented, suggesting improvements where suitable. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking for their next move with an organisation that is ever-growing.
The role
* Managing a team of c.20 staff, you will work with the team to ensure all workload is carried out to UKAS standards, and in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025
* Support the Operations Manager and General Manager with tasks, such as maximising the analytical techniques that are UKAS accredited as part of a market protection strategy
* Working closely with Senior Managers to ensure that all incentives and initiatives are relayed and embedded within the team
* Work closely with Purchasing to ensure that the correct quantity and quality of materials are in stock
* Supported by engineers, you will ensure that all equipment is to the correct standard, maintained and fully functioning
* Train, develop, mentor and coach your team, ensuring their 1-2-1s are completed and progression plans are put in place, highlighting areas of improvement
* Getting involved with the recruitment of staff in to your team
* Supporting senior team with customer and client relations, supporting at key meetings and adapting to the level and knowledge level where appropriate
* Monitoring and ensuring that all work is in keeping with compliance, legal and Health and Safety requirements
* Work to the highest standards of safety and quality by ensuring that appropriate COSHHs, risk assessments and SOPs are understood and followed.
The person:
* Degree qualified, or equivalent, in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Chemistry, or related scientific discipline
* You will have previous and hands on management and development experience, with a proven track record of developing teams within the Micro discipline
* The ideal candidate will be forward thinking, and create and nurture a culture of continuous improvement
* You will have worked within a microbiology UKAS accredited laboratory, and have a strong scientific background and understanding of microbiology procedures
* Proven track record of managing and developing team members
* Working with initiative and strong leadership skills
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
