Job summary
Position: Design & Technology Technician* Salary: £21,000 - £25,000 FTE per annum
* Location: Near Potters Bar, Herts
* Contract: Permanent, Part-Time
* Hours of Work: Flexible -8.00am to 4.30pm (22.5hours per week). Term time only plus 1 additional week in the school holidays.
Design & Technology Technician:

Main Purpose of the role:
To support and contribute to the smooth running of the Design & Technology department to enable students to achieve their best in a safe and secure learning environment.
Main Duties:
The monitoring and maintaining of Health and Safety:
Maintain general tidiness of equipment, tools, materials and organisation of DT rooms.
Regular maintenance and checks of all hand tools, machines and power tools in DT rooms.
Regular maintenance and checks of plant services, e.g. dust extractor systems etc.
Report any maintenance issues to HOD.
Assist HOD with producing department H&S termly return.
Assist HOD in maintaining and updating LMA (Local Management Arrangements).
Assist HOD in producing, reviewing and updating CLEAPPS risk assessments.
Assist HOD in producing and maintaining up to date COSHH data sheets and ensure guidance is carried out e.g. that hazardous materials are clearly labelled and stored in COSHH cupboard.
Maintain clean dust gathering surfaces on an on-going basis to ensure a low dust environment in DT rooms.
Ensure goggles are regularly sterilised and that first aid and biohazard boxes are kept stocked and up to date.
Effective management of stock:
Have knowledge and understanding of the materials and equipment used in the DT department.
Monitor and maintain levels of stock, equipment and resources as requested by teachers.
Ordering of stock in line with department procedures and record keeping.
Receive deliveries of materials and equipment, check against orders and store items safely and tidily in relevant store rooms. Follow up delays and discrepancies in orders where necessary.
Maintain tidy store rooms.
Prepare materials for teaching staff and pupils as requested.
Assisting with Lesson organisation:
Assist teachers in the preparation of teaching aids especially the preparation of cover worksheets and distribute them to classrooms.
Check that cover teachers have arrived. At the end of a cover lesson, check work is collected and room left tidy.
Assist in the supervision of activities during lessons to ensure pupils safety e.g. in DT: using pillar drill or scroll saw.
Other:
Assist with the presentation of students work in the department, around the school and for special events, e.g.end-of-year display /exhibition, Open Days etc.
Contribute to the on-going improvement of each departments facilities.
Willingness to drive to collect supplies.
Attend departmental meetings.
Other duties that are deemed appropriate to the role by the HODs and Principal.
Personal Qualities and Attributes:
Knowledge and experience of DT H&S matters and procedures.
Have knowledge and experience in DT related skills.
Willingness to learn/attend courses.
Organised, with good time management skills.
Be flexible and able to work independently.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Approachable, friendly, resourceful with a good sense of humour.
Having good ICT Skills:
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
Knowledge of CAD programs (2D Design, Onshape)
Ability to use photocopier/printer/scanner to support teachers and provide support material for students.
Holidays: This role offers all School holidays with pay. The job holder will be required to take their own holidays during the Schools holiday periods.
