This exciting vacancy is due to the current successful postholder taking over new responsibilities within the school. We want to build on the success of our current offer, which has been created to deliver a comprehensive forest school outdoor learning / education programme to small groups of children, each supported throughout by their own teaching and learning staff.
Working alongside / guiding teaching & learning staff colleagues, the Forest School Instructor will seek to develop emotional resilience, personal and social student skills including but not limited to, raising self-esteem, assessing & managing risk, and developing team work and leadership potential. This will be achieved through a varied programme which include a broad range of personalised, needs led activities such as:
Team building activities;
Woodland based activities;
Any other activities personalised by the Outdoor Learning Manager to pupil / student interests and developmental needs.
At Marland School we are lucky to have our own high quality 5 acre woodland, in a beautiful rural area just outside Peters Marland. This was recently refurbished to a high standard with 2 learning shelters, covered fire pit, composting toilet, maintained stream & clearing, extensive coppicing, driveway track and parking. This enables each of our schools to have regular access to this great outdoor learning / forest school environment. All sites have Forest School embedded within their curriculum, and the opportunity to further develop individuals interest outside the curriculum as required.
The overall Marland group of schools are currently graded as 'Good' by Ofsted Education, with the residential care provision separately judged to be 'Outstanding' by Ofsted Social Care inspectorate (both in March 2023). Our overarching ethos is based around personalisation and meeting the needs of each individual child. We utilise 'THRIVE' based social and emotional development at the core of everything we do.
Applications from individuals with the right aptitude and general outdoor experience will be welcomed. External Forest School Instructor Training will be commissioned for the successful applicant if they do not currently have such a qualification. Training and ongoing professional development opportunities are offered to all staff, as are potential future promotion opportunities where applicable.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
