About the Job:
We are seeking a personal assistant/support worker with experience of supporting people with Autism; this requirement is not limited to experience within previous job roles, and we welcome applications from people with life experience of this type of support. Duties will include supporting my son, a 16-year-old young man in Colwyn Bay, and motivating him towards a more independent and fulfilling life. This may include supporting the young man with activities both in the house and in the community, to increase his independence and socialisation skills whilst improving his motivation, initiative and self-esteem, to promote health, happiness and empowerment.
You may be required to transport the young man to his activities, so access to a car with appropriate business insurance cover and full clean driving licence is desirable. 2 hours per week-term time, 6 hours a week college holidays, times/days to be discussed at interview; flexibility and the ability to undertake overtime is desirable. £12.50 per hour.
Responsible to: You will be directly responsible to your employer, the young man's mother.
Main Tasks:
Encourage and support my son to take part in activities and increase his motivation and enthusiasm around this you need to be creative and enthusiastic to be able to come up with activities that will spark interest. Activities may include going out and about, all to be undertaken to benefit the young man, in accordance with his interests and with agreement from your employer (the young man's mother).
Support the young man in building up his independence skills, self-esteem, and wellbeing.
You may be required to transport the young man to his activities, so access to a car with appropriate business insurance cover and full clean driving licence is desirable.
Accompany the young man on public transport (Carers pass provided) to increase his confidence and independence around using public transport.
Undertake any further training, as mutually agreed.
Any other duties not mentioned but that fall within the scope of this role should be discussed and then mutually agreed.
Person Specification:
Experience of supporting people with Autism is essential for this role this requirement is not limited to experience within previous job roles, and we welcome applications from people with life experience of this type of support.
