A Special Needs School in a central area of Leeds is looking for a nurturing Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join their team. This role is due to start after February half term until the end of the academic year, with the view of then going onto a permanent contract.
The school supports children and young people from 3 to 19 years with various additional needs, including Autism, communication impairments and complex needs. Therefore, if you are patient and understanding, this is an excellent opportunity for you.
As a special needs teaching assistant your responsibilities will be to:
Collaborate effectively with the class teacher to plan and implement differentiated learning activities that cater to the specific requirements of students with SEN.
Create an inclusive, calm, and supportive learning environment where students feel valued, respected, and empowered.
Give one-on-one support to students, delivering interventions and adapting teaching methods to suit individual learning styles.
Use appropriate strategies to manage challenging behaviours and promote positive behaviours management techniques.
Monitor and track student progress, documenting observations and providing feedback to the teaching staff and parents/guardians.
Assist with personal care tasks, as required.
Support students in developing independent learning skills, social skills, and emotional well-being.
Requirements for this role:
Previous experience working with children with SEN setting is highly desirable but transferable experience is acceptable.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the educational needs of children with diverse needs.
Knowledge of various special educational needs and associated strategies.
To be successful as a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, experience working with children and/or adults with learning disabilities is required. This can be through professional or personal experience, such as having a family member with additional needs.

All quoted rates are inclusive of 12.07% holiday pay.
