Job summary
Job DescriptionAs a civil/structural engineering technician in our Water Division, you will aid in the inspection and reporting of the overall conditions of a variety of structures, mostly based within the wastewater industry (e.g. Anaerobic Digesters, Pathogen Kill Tanks, Gas Holders etc). Along with this technical support for our clients, you will also provide some Health & Safety Management support such as on-site audits of the client's construction sites.
Typical activities/deliverables will include:Overall inspection of a variety of structures on industrial sites.
Reporting of the overall asset condition.
Production of reports, as well as data logs concerning the overall condition of the structure (such as logging of steel thickness/protective coating readings).
Monitoring and auditing of on-site contractor activities.
CDM (Construction Design and Management Regulations) support such as; compiling pre-construction files, on-site audits with reports, and collation of Health and Safety files.
Working within industry specific Health & Safety guidelines, such as the Confined Space Regulations.
Preparing Risk Assessments and working in accordance with Method Statements.
Production and alteration of CAD (Computer-Aided Draughting) files.
Working very closely with the client on a daily basis.
This role will provide you with an excellent opportunity to further develop your career with challenging and varied work, in a highly supportive environment and give you first-hand exposure to inspection and remedial work of assets within the water and other industries.
We have a number of key clients in the UK water industry including Thames Water, Anglian Water, Severn Trent Water, Wessex Water and Southern Water. We currently undertake a number of major projects for Thames as well as having significant prospects for the next AMP period from early 2020.
Candidate Specification
Candidate specification;Previous technical experience in structural inspections or the wastewater industry is advantageous, but not essential.
Full UK driving licence (due to the nature of the role, travel across the UK is required, often to sites with no access via public transport.
Ability to work as a part of a team to deadlines and autonomously when required.
Computer literate and competent with Microsoft Word, Excel and email applications, as a minimum.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally (written and verbally) with colleagues, clients and contractors.
Self-motivated with a positive and friendly attitude.
A-levels preferred, or an equivalent industry-based qualification e.g. ONC/HNC in Civil Engineering or a relevant engineering subject.
