Job summary
Job Purpose:To provide strategic leadership and direction to the staff and students of the business ensuring continuous quality improvement is upheld in each of the programmes of training. Communicating and working with Group CEO, Financial Director, Principal, MIS lead, Programme Managers and ESFA. Areas of business include budgeting and forecasting for student intake, achievement and progression, overall development of the training business and securing financial contracts with direct government contracts and other stakeholders. Identifying developing and implementing new business opportunities across the company including commercialisation of resources, equipment and/or knowledge capital.
The post requires excellent knowledge and experience of working within the post-16 education sector. The Training Director is responsible for ensuring good and safe practice, policy development, (writing and reviewing), self-assessment report (SAR), quality improvement plan (QIP), curriculum planning, being the nominee for all inspections and audit, as well as leading, mentoring and developing a diverse team of staff and students. Upholding staff CPD and regular staff 1-1s and appraisals, ensuring robust student support service functions within the organisation to enable and to facilitate the delivery of high-quality education and training across all areas of the curriculum.
Responsible for working in collaboration with various companies and business partners within the group and will be critical to the achievement of the companies business plan. The post requires knowledge of business development, tendering and identification of funding opportunities that aligns to the activity of the business. Such opportunities may include, but not limited to technical certificates, apprenticeships, study programme and adult learner loans growth and tendering. The Training Director will brief the Group CEO on key priorities in national and regional strategies and advise on how the business should position itself for the future.
Main duties and responsibilities:
The following list of duties and responsibilities is not exhaustive but serves as an indication of what the role involves.
* To work effectively with the Governance Board, Group CEO, Senior Management Team and Programme Managers to ensure the strategic aims, objectives, vision, mission, and values of the training academy are achieved.
* Responsible for business development planning and implementation
* Responsible for curriculum development through collaborative working with Programme Managers and Heads of Department.
* Leadership and Management of the training academy staff and students across all departments.
* Setting an example of high-quality performance in standards, outcome and leadership.
* To lead and co-ordinate activities to meet the requirements of any external assessment or inspection process imposed upon the training academy, acting as the nominee for Ofsted and Matrix inspections.
* To be responsible for ensuring the training academy maintains its validation status with relevant awarding organisations, for example, VTCT, UAL, Active IQ, stakeholders and FE partners.
* To undertake other duties as may reasonably be requested by the Governance Board.
* Recruitment and induction of new members of staff, ensuring safer recruitment and appropriate validation checks are upheld.
* Leadership, and planning for the training academys bi-annual staff development and training programmes.
* Manage individual staff 1-1s, performance reviews/appraisals.
* Organise the delivery of mandatory meetings, including Governance, SMT, Safeguarding and Prevent, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Curriculum planning/self-assessment, Strategic Planning Group and faculty/departmental meetings.
* Liaising with Programme Managers in devising and managing the delivery of a weekly tutorial programme.
* Chair and/or contribute to operational planning meetings, senior management team meetings, curriculum, strategy and planning, financial and cashflow, departmental/faculty, programme managers, safeguarding and prevent, equality, diversity and inclusivity, mental health and wellbeing, business support team and regular strategy and/or other meetings.
* Lead on all aspects of safeguarding and prevent, ensuring all regulatory standards are maintained, implementing safeguarding and child protection strategies to embed a culture of safeguarding for all in the training academy.
* Be aware of and support differences and ensure equal opportunities for all.
* Ownership of the training academys inclusion, behaviour, attendance, and admissions policies, ensuring staff fully understand and implement policy consistently.
* Oversight of the whole training academys approach to mental health and wellbeing, including how it is reflected in behaviour and wellbeing.
The successful candidate will need to satisfy the conditions appertaining to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before taking up their appointment. They will be required to produce evidence of all qualifications cited on the application form.

Recognised Teaching Qualification (Essential)
PGCE (Learning and Teaching in Post-16 Education) (Desirable)
Leadership Experience/Knowledge:
Recent experience of working successfully as a senior leader in education (Essential)
Experience of writing and turning policies into effective and successful practice (Essential)
Leadership of a significant area or phase or inclusion (Essential)
Up to date knowledge of statutory regulations and guidance relating to the post (Essential)
General Skills:
* Knowledge of ESFA and SLC funding (essential)
* The ability to develop and deliver effective and inspirational professional development for staff (including mentoring and coaching as appropriate) (Essential)
* The ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of different audiences (Essential)
* The ability to demonstrate high quality teaching strategies (Essential)
* The ability to support, motivate and inspire both colleagues and students by leading through example (Essential)
* Proven designated (or deputy) safeguarding lead experience. (Desirable)
