UKHO is an executive agency, sponsored by the Ministry of Defence. We work with a wide range of data partners to chart the world's oceans in order to develop and serve world leading software and data solutions to commercial shipping companies, navies and maritime organisations. Our products (found on over 90% of ships trading internationally) ensure safe navigation and global trade efficiency and support other marine activities including economic development, environmental protection, resource exploration and utilisation, scientific research and security and defence.
The Role
A key objective of this post is to ensure that system deployments, builds, design, and associated infrastructure and environments (including development, test, and production environments), conform to quality assurance, security, and system-specific requirements, and meet service level agreements for availability and performance, as well as adhering to the technical strategy and supporting the UKHO safety systems.
Working with the Technical Systems Manager, Head of Technical Operations, and Enterprise Architecture Team, you will carry out the defined strategic roadmap to support the operations division and ensure that the strategy and technology used within the business are consistent and meets the business needs. This will include identifying and recommending activities to meet the strategic business requirements as well as activities to make recommendations on the use and development of these platforms to further improve and enhance the use across the organisation and ensure well designed and highly available platforms.
Please note you will be part of a team providing 24*7 cover through an on-call rota and will be required to provide on-call cover outside normal working hours in accordance with the rota.
What we are looking for
To be successful in your application you will need to have extensive technical experience with server and storage technologies at an architecture, design and technical expert level. This will include Microsoft Windows Servers 2016 and 2019, Virtualisation technologies - Microsoft Hyper-V, Microsoft Storage Spaces Direct and other server and infrastructure technologies in a large enterprise environment. In addition to your technical expertise we are also looking for leadership experience and strong communication skills, both written and oral, including the ability to produce reports and give presentations at an organisation wide level.
