Pay rate - £77 per day (based on £11.85 per hour - due to be increased in April 2023)
Duration - Long-term (Monday Friday, 8:30am 3:30pm)

Teaching Personnel are working in collaboration with a Specialist Provision in Bridgend to recruit a Special Support Officer (SSO) to support pupils with Complex Social, Emotional Behaviour Support and Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) including Autism & ADHD. We are looking for a Special Support Officer (SSO) to work within a team of dedicated staff to provide a positive learning experience for all pupils. You must be able to quickly build a rapport with pupils and staff whilst developing positive working relationships with all. You will have good behaviour management skills and be able to differentiate between the needs of the pupils to ensure they are able to access learning to the best of their ability. This is not only support Learning but also to support them access the community in an appropriate way.
As a Special Support Officer (SSO) your role will include:
Working withing a small class to support pupils who have experienced trauma, emotional difficulties and Additional Learning Needs.
Supporting pupils in enhancing self-esteem and their social interaction.
Encouraging pupils to take pride in their achievements and whilst supporting the celebration of them.
Supporting pupils to management their behaviour, emotions, and frustration.
Working closely as part of a team with other members of teaching staff.
It is essential for you to build a strong rapport with the pupils in the class and form a relationship based on trust and mutual respect. The successful SSO will need to represent themselves as a positive role model to pupils, supporting them to appropriately manage their behaviour and emotions, by helping and guiding them to channel these in a healthy and calm manner.
No previous experience of working within schools is necessary as we consider applications from any role that skills transfer over to working within Specialist provisions. These include; Residential Support Work, Youth Offending Service, Psychology and Sports Graduates. Teaching Personnel have also supported students who have required a sandwich year placement gain valuable experience needed for their future career aspirations - sounds great doesn't it?
