Role: Care Assistant

* Location(s): Whitchurch, Shropshire, SY13 area

* Pay Rate: £12.50ph days and £13.00ph nights

* Contract: Full and Part time contracts available

* Shifts Available - 08:00 - 20:00 days 20:00 - 08:00 wake / sleep nights; applicants must be flexible to work both shifts on a Rota basis

* Access to vehicle required: Yes, due to the geographical location and nature of the role.

What youll do

This is an excellent opportunity to enhance your current skill base and join us as a Complex Care Assistant. You will have full training and clinical support to develop and enhance skills in various complex areas such as tracheotomy, ventilation, seizure management, and stoma care plus so much more! We care for and support people of all ages, in the community, and in their homes, with Spinal Cord injury, Muscular dystrophy, acquired brain injuries and many other complex needs. Every day will be different. And youll never know what challenges youre about to face next. One thing you can be sure of though, is that youll be making your clients days brighter, whilst developing your skills and knowledge.

I need someone with excellent communication skills who is also confident, motivated, and empathetic to help me live my life to the full.

When I was 17 I was involved in a car accident in which I broke my neck, which left me paralyzed from the chest down, resulting in the need for 24/7 care. I have lived with a spinal cord injury for 17 years now, and I am still determined to live my life to the fullest.

These are some of my interests:

I would probably characterize myself as a bit of a geek, I like pretty much anything sci-fi and I enjoy going to comic cons, and I have also been to a number of Star Trek and Doctor Who conventions.

I used to play the drums in a band, as well as being able to play guitar and keyboards, and even though I can no longer do these things, music is still a massive part of my life, whether it be attending concerts or just listening to music on my sound system at home.

Also one of the things I used to do before my accident was build computers in my spare time, even though I can no longer do this I still love to use my PC, for films, music and games.

I also enjoy doing exercise, just to keep active, and to give myself a focus.

I believe it is also important to add that I love big dogs, at the moment I don't own a dog of my own, although I live with my mum and stepdad who have a newfoundland cross. In the past I did have 3 Newfoundlands and a Dogue de Bordeaux.

Although I can no longer walk and need assistance with most of my daily activities, I still have a strong desire to lead an independent lifestyle. With the support of my team, I know this is possible.
