£24,500 to £31,000 per year DOE
Full time, Permanent
South Molton
Randstad is working together with an incredible organisation that supports the transition of children who have experienced profound trauma, into a stable and supportive environment.
Based across various locations in Devon, they provide secure environments designed to safeguard, encourage and engage with young children. Their specialist care teams of support workers will be tasked with engaging, understanding, supporting and developing the life of a young person. Supporting them with the most basic of needs (cooking, cleaning) right the way through to behavioural management and mental health support.
Full and comprehensive training for the role will be provided. Below is an outline of what we are looking for.
Resilience
One of the most important aspects of this role as a support worker is resilience. The young people you will be working with have experienced trauma and suffering on a profound scale from sexual abuse, childhood trauma and mental health issues to eating disorders and suicidal tendencies.
The young people will all have a range of challenging behaviours, triggers. They can be untrustworthy and struggle to develop/maintain relationships. Self harm and suicidal tendencies are sadly common & with the extensive training provided you will learn to manage and recognise these behaviours and their patterns.
Engagement
You will have a natural curiosity and ability to listen and engage with young people, understanding their needs and adapting to their requirements and evolving situations. You will get to know this young person and learn about them on a unique level. The team of Support workers will develop strong relationships and understanding in order to provide the highest level of support and care to these young people.
Compassion and Empathy
As a support worker, your ability to understand, convey empathy and compassion is essential. You will be supporting young children to make one of the most difficult transitions in their lives. Riding a rollercoaster of ups and downs, you are there to set boundaries, help establish goals and communicate on every level with this young person, providing a safe space for them to grow and develop.
Experience
There are no specific qualifications or accolades required for the support worker role, however, the life experience you bring to the role could be your most valuable asset.
Are you a police officer or paramedic who's experienced high stress situations?
Are you a nurse or a social worker who's been there, seen it and done it all?
Are you a foster carer or parent that's cared for and supported children with complex needs?
Are you an outdoor activities instructor or martial arts teacher who is disciplined and resilient?
Your experience is far more valuable than a qualification. If you feel like your experience and resilience can help make a life changing difference in a young person's life, I would love to hear from you.
